This is the Thin Liquid Film Wiki. It shall evolve into a knowledge base and (maybe) communication platform for people working in the field. Extension into neighboring fields would be a sign of its success.
However, it shall neither become a preprint server nor a simple textbook replacement. The initial idea of its founders aims at a knowledge base that includes new results fast into the overall scientific building. If people think it is a worthwhile enterprise and start contributing it may evolve into a catalogue of evolution equations, an overview on experiments and their explanations, a place where to find details of otherwise unintelligible derivations, a depositorio for experimental receipts and documented program code or a mixture of these things.
Note, that the wiki is still at its very beginning (autum 2006) and major work has yet to start. By now we resolved the question how to introduce bibliographic information and/or links to the literature in a sensible (and at least semi-automatic) way (See Syntax Guide).
Main starting points are the following topics that involve thin liquid films or are connected with them. Feel free to contribute to the list, the individual pages, to all the system..
Contents |
Dewetting
with the sub topics Rupture modes, Hole growth, Rim instabilities, Coarsening, Dewetting of complex fluids, Two-layer films
Drops and films on inclined substrates
with the sub topics Sliding drops, Falling films, Front instabilities
Drops and films on heterogeneous/patterned substrates
with the sub topics Dewetting on heterogeneous substrates, Falling film on heterogeneous substrates Depinning
However, many themes directly connect to the broader context. Some aspects can be found in
Thin films in broader context
with some sub topics being
Transport equations, Navier Stokes equations Complex fluids
